To attract butterflies you will need to grow plants and flowers which are rich in nectar. Brightly coloured flowers which emit fragrance are ideal. A Cottage Garden mix of seeds include an array of flowers which attract butterflies and bees.

One cannot grow a butterfly garden without having a Buddleia. As most people know, the Buddleia is also known as the Butterfly Bush. The Buddleia grows banana shaped blooms which butterflies love. Red Admirals, Peacocks and tortoiseshell butterflies all love the nectar found within the small flowers.
Dedicate a border to growing cottage garden flowers, which include hardy-annuals such as poppies and foxgloves. Strong smelling plants such as lavender or herbs are also very attractive to butterflies. Try to plant your sweet-scented flowers in a sheltered spot, so the delicate butterflies don't get blown away on a windy day.

Beautiful butterflies from caterpillars grow! Caterpillars can sometimes be a pest, especially on your greens, but please don't harm them, gently pick them off and place them into a nettle patch, where, with any luck, they will carry on growing and turn into a beautiful butterfly one day.
