You will need:
2 lb apples
2 lb red tomatoes
2 onions
1 pint vinegar
1 tsp peppercorns
1 level dessertspoon ground ginger
½ lb brown sugar
How to make Apple and Tomato Chutney:
Peel, core and slice the apples, tomatoes and onions. Place into a large bowl. Pour the vinegar over the them and add the peppercorns and bruised ginger. Cover and leave to stand for 24 hours.
Place the mixture into a preserving pan and add the sugar. Bring to the boil, stirring frequently and let simmer until tender.
Pour into warm, pre-sterilised jars and seal when cold.
